Our Properties in Ilminster

Ilminster is a quiet market town in South Somerset, not far from the A303 and A358. When you’re staying nearby on your large group holidays in the West Country, go and have a browse around. Other than a large supermarket, the shops are mostly independent and include an award-winning butchers, a bakers, antiques shops and a wonderful emporium that sells local crafts, gifts, clothing, pottery, jewellery and vintage wares. Thursday is market day when traders set up stall around the historic market house in the middle of town, with fresh fish, bread, flowers and preserves to choose from.

The Minster church is very impressive for such a small town, so go and have a look round; it’s especially atmospheric in December when it hosts the annual Christmas Tree Festival. The area around the church is worth a wander, with centuries old cottages where roses scramble up the walls, and grander golden Ham stone houses that include a former chantry and grammar school.

If you’re peckish when you’re mooching about in Ilminster, there are some good cafes to choose from; go to Ilminster Arts Centre, housed in a historic church, see the latest exhibition and check out the crafts from local makers in the shop, then stop for lunch or cake. Further up the hill is No 57 where you can tuck into toasties, homemade flatbreads, soups and sausage rolls before exploring the rambling rooms full of antiques and vintage.
