People often book our luxury large group holiday houses for big family holidays and to celebrate special birthdays and anniversaries with their nearest and dearest, so we’ve put together the ultimate guide to planning a multi-generation family holiday.
Family is so important and sharing the love is one of the best things in life. Our big and beautiful holiday houses provide the backdrop to many amazing family holidays and celebrations, but it takes some organising. So, to help you, we’ve come up with the ultimate guide to planning a multi-generation family holiday. Read on and you’ll see that when you come to Malherbie Group Stays it needn’t be the diddliest bit stressful. We’ve got everything you need right here.
The Destination
This is the first consideration. No point choosing somewhere miles away from anywhere but at the same time, you want a lovely setting that’s peaceful and feels like a world of your own. Good transport links are essential, by road and rail, so travelling is easier for elderly grandparents and for parents with younger children. The less “How much further is it?” and “Are we there yet?” the better.
That’s the beauty of Churchill 20 and Beaverbrook 20; these luxury group holiday homes are set back off a quiet lane in a sleepy Somerset hamlet surrounded by glorious countryside, yet major routes (M5, A358, A303 and A358) are all within easy reach. Train stations with rail links from London and the Southeast, and The Midlands and Wales are within half an hour’s drive or taxi ride.
The Venue
Once you’ve settled on the destination, you’ll need to find the perfect place to stay. Somewhere that has plenty of room, enough bedrooms and enough bathrooms. You’ll need a big space where you can all gather together, whilst at the same time there’s room to spread out when you want to. You’ll need to make sure there’s plenty to keep all generations happy and of course, there’s the weather – you don’t want that spoiling your plans.
Our group accommodation ticks all the boxes. Beaverbrook 20 and Churchill 20 both sleep 20 in 10 ensuite bedrooms; 10 extra beds (charged per person) push that capacity up to 30 and it means parents needn’t worry about younger children being in another room – we even provide cots so families can share the same snooze space. Each house has a spa hall with a pool, hot tub and sauna, there are games rooms and movie rooms, and an enormous open plan living space with a well-equipped kitchen, a huge dining table and snug areas. Outside there are secure gardens for alfresco dining and playtime with the little ones. So, there’s more than enough to keep everyone smiling even if it rains for England.
Accessibility
If you have elderly grandparents who aren’t as mobile as they once were, or there are less able-bodied people in your party, you’ll need to factor in accessibility. No worries there with our large holiday houses – both have stairlifts where needed, ground floors have level flooring and spacious bedrooms with ensuite wet rooms.
We can also provide accessibility equipment, like shower chairs and toilet support frames, and we have direct access for unloading at both properties.
On that note, we are also proud to be fully family friendly with full size cots, travel cots and highchairs available on request for infants and babies.
Dog Friendly
Your pet pooch is an important part of your family so why leave him out of the fun? Our large group accommodation is dog friendly with secure gardens, so you can pack the bowls and the blankets, the toys and the towels and bring your furry friends too. All we ask is that you read our Dog Rules before you book and stick to them throughout your stay.
Activities and Days Out
So, destination chosen, venue selected, but what about when you get there? What will you all do? There’s plenty to keep you all amused at Beaverbrook 20 and Churchill 20, but there are several ways to bring added fun to your holiday. Our Extras and Things To Do pages are there to inspire you, packed full of places to visit, where to eat, local beaches, walks and activities. You’ll find recommended private caterers listed, pamperers, and entertainment like a professional conjurer, and packages from My Event Concierge that include Activity Days and Murder Mystery nights. Get a chef in to create a fantastic celebration feast, snuggle up for a family movie night, have a competition in the games room.
Logistics
You want to make things as easy as possible for everyone in your group. By choosing to take your multi-generational stay in the UK straightaway you’ve ditched the bother of driving to airports, all the queues and the possibility of delayed flights, and onward travel. But it gets better. As we’ve already said, major routes are within easy reach of our luxury holiday houses, and when you get here, you won’t need to worry about parking because we have a big car park especially for guests.
And then there’s the cost. A glance at our peak prices and you might think it sounds a tad expensive, but it’s not when you work out the cost per person. It's remarkably good value per head, considering you’ve got the luxury of all ensuite bedrooms and exclusive use of such fantastic features.
Our website has Floorplans to help you decide where everyone’s going to sleep, maps to show you where nearby attractions and places to eat are, and once you’ve booked, detailed directions. Bye-bye stress, hello happy holiday.
