Perry’s Cider, Dowlish Wake, Ilminster, Somerset
Drive or stroll to Perry’s Cider at Dowlish Wake when you’re on your large group holidays in Somerset. They’ve been making cider on this family run farm since 1920, so they certainly know a thing or two – testament to how good it is, is that Perry’s Cider have become well known for their produce and have won several prestigious awards. Most of the apples that go into the cider are grown in the orchards right here, with the rest picked from local farms; the cider is made from 100% Somerset apples, naturally fermented and matured onsite.
Go and have a wander round, enjoy the peace and quiet and the very lovely surroundings. See the 16th century cider barn, the cider cellar and the orchards, frothy with apple blossom in the springtime. From Easter 2024 they’ll be running self-guided audio tours or guided group tours where you can find out all about the history and folklore of cider making and sample the goods in the Tap Room. There’s also a well-stocked Farm Shop, so take a big basket and fill it with local delights. Stop for brunch, a light lunch or coffee and cake in the café; if the sun has got his hat on, sit outside beneath the trees and just enjoy being there, soaking up the timeless charm.
